Introduction

This simulator shows how different investment choices could affect future water bills.

To do this, we first assign you a possible future bill scenario, which includes a randomised increase. This reflects the uncertainty in future costs, such as inflation, construction costs, and the level of investment required.

Next, you will be asked to enter your current quarterly water bill. The allows us to personalise the results and show how your bill could change under different investment choices.

To begin, please enter your current quarterly water bill below. If you are unsure of the exact amount, you can enter an estimate using the guide below.

Customer type Average quarterly bill
Small households (1-2 people) with low water use - e.g. minimal garden watering - apartment or townhouse, water saving devices used in the house $230
Small households (1-3 people) with fairly low water use e.g. a small garden, average laundry use $260
Families (2-4 people) with houses on smaller blocks, with average water use $300
Larger households (3-5+ people) in houses with very high water use e.g. large garden, pool multiple showers, and laundry $400+

As you move the sliders in the next page, you will see how changes in service and investment may increase of decrease your estimated future bill.

This simulator does not predict your future water bill. It provides an indication of the possible size of bill changes based on the investment choices shown in this exercise and an average household bill. Actual water bills may differ. Final bills will depend on the services South East Water proposes, the actual costs of delivering those services, and the prices approved by the Essential Services Commission. The results shown in this exercise are illustrative only and are designed to help understand how different spending priorities may affect customer bills.
